FRUSTRATINGLY SLOW PACED...but props to Wes Craven (spoilers)
The film initially captures the innocence of the time and the innocence of a girl blossoming into womanhood.
Then there are some horrible people who compared to the morality of the Brady Bunch, which was still running at the time this was made, are positively like the Manson family.
The thing is the parents are supposed to be upper middle class conservative respectable types, he's a Doctor not sure about the wife.
So there she is sucking off a complete stranger who she knows has killed her daughter? Now I might be way off base but holy *beep* balls that's pretty outrageous behaviour.
Then Dad is chasing around the guy with a chainsaw in the living room which he has rigged to have an electrical outlet connected to the front door.
So the bad guys are meant to be deranged etc., fair enough whatever, but like the parents aren't really perfectly sane and reasonable people either.
It just seems like it was a little off in the writing stage of this production.
And to me that's the bit I find creepy about the whole movie. It's all a bit of a joke up until she starts to suck cock. Then it's just plain weird and creepy.
I suppose the whole horror genre before this was mostly bad Vampire movies and werewolves, thank god we've moved past that in this day and age *cough*, and this was charting new territories, so as I said in the title proper respect to Wes Craven for being a pioneer.
The thing about this film is it has no style, no swagger, no class about it. I'd much rather watch Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! any day of the week over this film because it has all of the above and more.
