Wow, I loved this movie up until... **question involved**

Bought the blu-ray the other day and got around to watching it. I finished the entire film and thought "Wow, that was *beep* solid. Really enjoyed it." Then I read on here about Mari getting shot and killed.. and I thought... "WTF, she didn't die.. are people really that stupid?" ... So I go back and I never laughed so hard in my entire life.

The parents walk up to Mari, who is clearly moving (not even subtle either, she's moving a lot) and then the dad says she's dead. I missed that line the first time and now it completely wrecks the entire movie for me.

PS. His lips don't *beep* move either. What the hell? From now on, when I watch it, I'm going to just assume when that line comes out of his "mouth", that he's just thinking that she's dead (dying) in his head, while the mom continues to be sad about how hurt Mari is.

Do they mention later in the film (may have missed some dialogue) "You killed my daughter" or something similar that would wreck these thoughts?

reply

I thought the dad moved her with his hands underneath her or the mom. It was very darkly filmed so it was hard to see.

There's a reason why the scene with the parents finding Mari comes off like that. They shot the scene with her being barely alive with Mari telling her parents who her attackers were and then dying in their arms (you can see the full sequence in the "Krug & Company" cut on the UK DVD releases) but the acting was that poor in the scene that they cut it later on and unfortunately didn't have anything to replace it with, so they overdubbed everything as best they could.

reply

Yes, that is correct. They should have kept that scene in, I think.

At what point did she die though. She still look alive to me.

reply

Like the person said before, there was a deleted scene in which she was still alive long enough to tell her parents who the killers were. But since they got rid of that scene, it didn't make much sense. I think that scene was crucial to the plot and should've been kept.

I think so too. I found that full scene on youtube. Why did they cut it since doing so has it make no sense!? Cause of bad acting? Having a dead body move, is worse!

Can you please link me to that video?

Fast forward 1:04:30 in. You can see that she is still alive, and then dies, when she is found.

Oh my, that scene wasn't even that badly acted in comparison with the rest of the film. The least they could have done was added that blank stare of hers, when she's dead, and had the father say those words off camera when she looks dead.

Freaking ridiculous that this is the best they could come up with.

"She's dead" while she's still moving and his lips don't move. Hahaha, because she's on the couch I always pretend she's alive and those were just thoughts the dad was having. lol.

reply

I don't know, that was pretty horrific acting, and dialog to boot.

"3 of the 4 people, two guys and a lady. Murderers. Murderers."

What kind of line is that?

And then "Oh my baby, my baby" after her daughter dies, without ANY emotion invested into it.

reply

I don't think that was a bad line. I don't think anyone would be very eloquently spoken if they knew they were just seconds away from death.

This is a remake. In the original in the first one. Mari was killed

No, this is the message board for the original.

Like some other posters have pointed out, she was originally alive when her parents found her, that's the way the scene was filmed but I have heard that it was changed because the audio to the scene was badly damaged. I have also heard that the poor acting may have been the reason the scene was changed, seeing the scene on youtube, I personally think that it shouldn't have been cut. Having Mari live long enough to tell her parents who killed her made alot more sense to me then just having them figure it out by finding Maris necklace.

By that time the parents already knew who was responsible. No need for Mari to spell it out again.

mari is indeed dead and they even bring her body inside and lay her on the couch.
