Were 70's movies THIS bad? spoilers

Sitting through this movie was appalling, horrible acting, visuals, dialogues, the characters are all brain-dead with less common sense than a monkey, the cops were dumber than dumber, the chase scenes where the villains would suddenly surround her after she had pulled some distance from them (at some point you even see 2 of them chasing one of the girls, clearly far from her, but on the next scene the guy is SITTING next to the woman and then they somehow spot the girl running right next to them and they wake up and go on? lul) or letting her walk around and escape a few times, or when Mari's parents find her and she's still moving but 2 seconds later she's dead? the villain getting electrocuted by touching the door handle? how? there was only a little wire cut loose on the wall.. etc etc

Terrible in every aspect. Or was this kind of crap the norm back then?

The modern remake is so good compared to this garbage..

The 1970's was the golden age of films like The Godfather, The Shining, Star Wars, Jaws, etc..House on the Left was just a bad film

I think this movie is mostly remembered for being one of the first horror movies that really went far with the violence. We did have movies like Blood Feast and Night of the Living Dead which were also rather violent compared to what came before them, but this was still shocking for its time. People weren't used to such realism. So I think it's mainly famous for how controversial it was as well as being Wes Craven's first film. I don't think it's bad though. There is a scene included on the DVD when Mari reveals who the killers are right before she dies by the way. That's why she was moving. I'm not sure why it was deleted but it shouldn't have been.

Anyways, although I personally love this film I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone. I used to hate the dumb cops but now I see them as part of the film's quirky charm. I think each decade has its good and bad so you can't really judge a whole decade by one movie.
