Hickey and Boggs now on DVD

For years, this private eye flick has been a lost treasure. Hasn't shown up on TV, not available on VHS. Culp and Cosby fans can rejoice! It is now available on DVD. Apparently, the rights to this film are now in the public domain. The Company releasing it is "AIP Studios". It is a cheap issue (the picture shakes several times during the film. However, it may be your only chance to see this film - it's worth it to get it.

Oh my God x2.

Not only am I thrilled to see this on DVD (that's the good part), but this is hands down the worst DVD transfer I've ever seen (yes, the bad part).

Still, better than nothing (of course), but OH MY GOD, was this transferred off of Super-8? Yikes.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

Dear DOOM: HI. >>> The reason the DVD from AIP looks so lousy is because the source was an NTSC-converted copy from a PAL-VHS master "source" from about 3 or 4 generations down.

AIP was grossly incompetent.

Here's the deal: HICKEY AND BOGGS was released by WARNER HOME VIDEO in the UK in 1985. The video came in a nice clamshell case with groovy insert artwork, too. :) I'm sure of this because I have 3 originals from England. The picture quality of the tape is nice! BUT -- find a cheap PAL-to-NTSC video transfer done with inferior equipment and you get a pile of s/h*i?t transfer. Ugh!

I used to own this disk and sold it off after getting an original tape from England or two or three . . .

Anyway, that's why this El Cheapo disk is in Full Screen because the source was an old tape.

And so it goes . . .
