Hickey + Boggs in HiDef

This month, Hickey & Boggs is in High Definition on the MGMHD channel

It's on 8/2, 8/7, 8/15, and 8/26 (see www.mgmhd.com)

I'm watching it now on my DVR, it looks nice to see it in it's original
ratio (1.85:1) and increased detail

DAMN! Comcast doesn't carry that channel (yet).

I'd LOVE to see this film in HD (or even GOOD low-def - lol).

I missed the chance to see Robert Culp present the film at the George Eastman House here in Rochester, NY last year. What an unbelievably underrated piece. So sad it's mostly forgotten these days. Culp's direction was masterful - although some of his editing choices made the pacing a bit uneven, but I loved the way he composed some scenes ... from little things like revealing to the audience the bullet holes in the screen door when Cosby shows up at the apartment of one of the victims, to the understated tracking shots of the aftermath on the beach during the closing credits.
Thank goodness I got this one DVR-ed in HD and am now managing my other recordings so I can keep it forever.

Any chance you'd burn me a copy and sell it to me?
You're right, it's a uniquely good film and a crime that there is no 'official' DVD release.
I saw Culp present it in L.A. about a year ago and was blown away. What a great picture.
Thanks

Hi, did you have this burned to DVD? I've got the half-a**ed DVD release, full screen.

Wondering if you'd sell or trade me a copy that you DVR-ed.

Thanks

Dear treshon: HI. >>> The reason why that dismal A.I.P DVD release from Canada is so bad is because it's like a 3rd or 4th generation copy from a PAL-VHS format "master" source. HICKEY AND BOGGS was released on video in England in 1985 by WARNER HOME VIDEO. (Had a "15" certificate). I have 3 of these originals from the UK and the picture quality is quite good -- albeit the tapes are obviously full screen. Some genius at AIP must have got ahold of an NTSC-converted copy that was done by cheap equipment.

The original PAL tape looks infinitely better than that El Cheapo DVD. I used to own that AIP disc, but sold it off when I bought myself a PAL player and got some UK tapes to play on it.

HICKEY AND BOGGS is a great movie. Really captures the feel of early '70s L.A. and doesn't cop out and have a "happy ending", either.

I really think this movie would be better remembered had it been released on video here in the U.S. back in the '80s when homevideo was a free-for-all.
