Air raid sirens near beginning...

Anyone who grew up in the 60's remembers those tests on Monday at noon? I remember seeing this movie in the theatre and thinking they don't still sound those anymore...at least not down here in San Diego area. And look at the smog in that scene, so typical of a LA summer! I think viewers that went to see it were disappointed that it was so serious of a movie, not the joking and jiving that I Spy was...I read the novel, the beginning has a detailed description of the bank robbery in Pittsburgh. I'll have to look in my garage and see if I can find it!

I remember those sirens but I thought they were dangerous levels of smog alerts. They were a warning to people with breathing problems to stay inside.

I could be wrong but that's what I remember.

They were to test the civil defense system every month.
After the sirens became dilapidated they were all dismantled.

The one I would pass by looked like a crows nest with a yellow pointed cap on top. It was taken down sometime in the ninetees.
