And in 1972 he would have come at a fraction of the cost of Marlon Brando. What turned out to be just an okay movie could have been so much better if only Mr Coppola had the vision needed.
Well... Not sure if you are trolling or are serious. Anyways, without saying that Stallone would have made a better Don Corleone, it might had been interesting. Stallone can actually act when giver the right material so I don't see why not.
But this without saying that Brando wasn't the right choice. The face we remember of the Godfather is his face. He did a great job.
Fun facts: Stallone autionned for a part in The Godfather and he also was considered to direct the third installment at some point.
De Niro was offered and accepted the part of Paulie Gatto. They then supposedly traded him for Pacino, with another studio according to the 45th anniversary tribeca presentation.
Think it was the Paulie Gatto part Stallone was considered for.
That's an interesting idea. Well, Stallone was definitely too young to play Don back in 1972, but he could've played Michael or Sonny - one of Don's sons. Personally I think he would've fit perfectly as hotheaded Sonny, more than a brooding Michael. As some of you mentioned he did play a mafioso in his youthful days, that was in Capone in 1975, right before he was in Rocky. Now Sly would've been perfect as the aged Don Vito Carleone. They should ask him to be in some new mafia movie or series for sure. Maybe Sopranos II?
