Remember the staircase shoot out?

I loved this movie then and I love seeing it again and again. About the staircase... my uncle built the set staircase twice. It was damaged in the first take and had to be built again. Sam Peckinpah thanked my uncle, Weston (Wes) Webb for putting in the exta time with a handwritten note and $100 cash. (You're right bmwhtly, the guard was coming to and yet the idiot bank robber did not kick the gun away...what a way to get us excited about the action to follow.)

I don't remember him talking about McQueen. My uncle built the sets for Cool Hand Luke (another great movie)and he took us on the set before Paul Newman arrived to film.Remember how old & weathered the buildings looked? The wood inside was brand new. He had to build them crooked. Wish I could have met Newman & the others.

I played with my shotgun for weeks after. A lot of staircases in the Vegas area needed repair.
