Remake

Look I know that The Getaway was already remade but it lost of the original's greatness. I think that it could be successfully remade today and if I were the casting director if would cast Daniel Craig as McQueen's character and Jordana Brewster as McGraw's character. But Craig obviously would have to lose the accent. But, I was just wondering what people thought about those picks.

reply

Not bad picks..I myself don't think the remake is that good, but if there was to be another made, those casting choices aren't so bad. Although, the studios probably wouldn't pick the Craig guy, seeing that he isn't exactly a big time money maker in the U.S.

I'm thinking more Brad Pitt Catherine Zeta Jones myself.

Watched it last night and the frekkin remake tainted the experience somewhat, The Rudy character didn't seem as awesome as M Madsen is and who can rival Slim pickens

Well I basically agree with you,and in this case 110%,but check out the remake
of "Cape Fear" with Robert Deniro. He is so evil, yet so campy/funny that I put
it in the Cult Classic category!

peckinpah/mcqueen equals perfection. Remaking this is almost as bad an idea as remaking the Wild Bunch and Butch and Sundance. When will the madness cease?

Until I read your post I had not imagined Daniel Craig as Doc/McQween, but he seems a perfect fit. I'd suggest Uma Thurman in the female lead.

reply

I would suggest Russel Crowe, Harrison Ford, Mark Wahlberg, or even (*gasp*) Keanu Reeves... Those are all, of course, assuming you set the dialogue at a minimum...

Scarlett Johansson should be the leading lady.

Great prediction rocky4 35! I showed this movie to my lovely girlfriend tonight and she commented that Ali McGraw resembles Jordanna Brewster. Then she stated that, if a remake is made, they should cast Daniel Craig is Doc.

And here you are saying the same thing nearly 2 years ago...

When I originally wrote the post I just really thought that Daniel Craig was an actor who really has the same screen presence that McQueen once did. I had just watched Layer Cake and I was watching McQueen movies at the same time and it just clicked. Also, even though Craig would be perfect in McQueen's role Jordanna Brewster is an even better fit because Ali McGraw couldn't her way out of a paper bag just like Jordanna. McGraw kills me every time I watch the movie. Talk about not being able to bring emotion to the screen or even the ability to speak her lines convincingly. Everytime she spoke it was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Jordanna is about the same when I watched The Fast and the Furious.

I DIDN'T THINK THE REMAKE WAS THAT BAD.YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT?IT TAKES ALOT FOR ME TO GET INTO A REMAKE,BUT I DID ENJOY THE REMAKE AS WELL.

If another version of this is ever done, then they should do it closer to the original novel.................include the hellish El Rey ending that neither current film adaptation has ever done.
