I'm a big fan of 70's caper/crime movies (Bad guys / theives in main focus)

Heres my top five:

5) Dog Day Afternoon - Pacino's great acting ability made this film

4) The Anderson Tapes - a very underrated movie with Sean Connery

3) The Hot Rock - A caper / comedy that WORKS!!

2) The Sting - classic

1) Charlie Varrick - very good story, interesting characters, intelligent dialogue

All of these are brilliant films:

The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (dig that David Shire score)
The Seven Ups
Charlie Varrick
The Anderson Tapes
The Getaway
Does The French Connection count
The Master Touch (an Italian movie with Kirk Douglas, directed by Michele Lupo: check it out; it's a brilliant film)
Grand Slam (a classic that seems to be little-seen)

'I'm a by God constitutional anarchist'
Warren Oates.

The Godfather was not a caper flick. Nice shout out for The Anderson Tapes, though. That sadly under-appreciated film pre-figured the whole Waterate-electronic surveillance culture. Didn't do it as well as The Conversation, but it got there first.

And speaking of Watergate, how about All the President's Men as a great '70s caper flick?
