One small gripe

great movie. great locations (texas). great mcqueen (one of his best IMO).

i do have one small gripe though. carol kept calling doc "doc". i have never known wives to call their husbands the name that almost everybody else calls him. it's usually "baby" or "honey" or "sweetheart" or some other such nickname that's just for her to say.

i found this to be semi-annoying. it was almost like she just met him. sort of impersonal which flew in the face of their relationship as husband and wife.

on a related note, ali mcgraw's acting always leaves me underwhelmed. well, that actually makes it two small gripes.

True, but Doc is clearly a nickname, not a given name and they had a more hostile relationship, not so lovey dovey (sweetie/honey/baby/etc.) so to me it makes sense.

You raise a good point about the hostile relationship. It makes sense about the nickname being used considering that.
