My thoughts of the film.
I've never seen this before, am an 80's kid and this is what I thought of the film today in 2012:
Everything was great except for Ali MacGrw. I'm not saying she's a bad actor or anything but when she spoke it was just horrible. I liked their odd relationship but her lines were a bit silly and off as were some of the king of cool's. But the movie was so much fun, so raw, funny, and destructive, that those little problems took a backseat. I'm a TX boy so I loved the location and just the feel of it all. Steve with a shotgun was just too fun to watch and the slo-mo shots were terrific. And of course I loved the burning tires and roaring engines too.
There were a few problems (not really mistakes) I did notice like some crappy sound effects when Mcqueen was slapping Ali it just sounded horrible and the fake blood was hard to take seriously but that's the 70's for ya. :)
There was also a scene when the two fall out of the garbage truck and never even mention how disgusting it was or how thy almost died and that was strange but funny in a way I guess. It made them seem more professional and almost unbreakable in a sense but I would have rather heard the two kuss and moan about it instead of talk about their problematic relationship.
My favorite scene other than Mcqueen blasting a cop car with a shotgun would probably be where Slim Pickens gets his 30,000$. It's a very happy moment.
