Put mystery to rest!!!

I am 27 years old and just recently seen the Getaway. A lot of people, even my own father, claim that this movie originally had a full nude scene with Sally Struthers back in the seventies when they saw it on the big screen. This would be cool if it were since it would tarnish her now golden image. So if any one could enlighten me and put this mystery to rest I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I worked as an usher in a movie theater in Florida when this film was released. It was held over for over three weeks and I saw it three or four times a day, five days a week.

There was no nude scene with Sally Struthers. Back then, a full-nude scene would have resulted in an X-rating (remember those...?)

Sorry to disappoint.

reply

Actually, a full nude scene back then still wouldn;t have been enough to warrant an X rating. Soft sexual content involving full nudity (the rape scene in Clockwork Orange, the montage in Midnight Cowboy)) would have gotten an X where today it gets an R. Just having her be naked would have still been an R. They even gave PG ratings to movie with full nudity (Jaws).

reply

Lots of movies with full-on nudity got PG ratings back then (Vanishing Point, Papillon, others that I can't recall off-hand). It wasn't a big deal then, and it shouldn't be now. If the sight of a naked woman was made common, maybe there would be no need for a multi-billion dollar porn industry which just keeps getting more and more extreme in its content.

reply

But the nudity in Jaws was of the gal in the water in very muted light.

Your Dad, and others, may be thinking of Struther's brief topless scene in FIVE EASY PIECES.

there is a scene though which got by the censors of that day. There's a scene with Sally Struthers and Al Literi in the back seat of her husbands car. Sally is giving Al ( Rudy ) a hand j*b.It's a brief sequence but you can tell what's going on.In the next couple of scenes Harold hangs himself.I've watched this flic a hundred times and never noticed.Anyone else ever noticed?

reply

I totally noticed! That is pretty hot, actually--check out her facial expressions. In an earlier scene she shows her hand technique with the barrel of his gun.

reply

im not sure but i think you may have your movies mixed up,i think she did that scene in 5 easy peices.

What "golden image"??? Anyway, she did a brief topless scene in Five Easy Pieces...

reply

There is no full out nude scene with Sally Struthers...where do you people get this stuff?

"She was much younger and more attractive in the 70's."

Could've fooled me. Mind you, if I ever did think she was hot, I'm pretty sure I changed my mind as soon as she opened her mouth...

As others have said on this thread, Struthers is never nude; she is however barely covered. Although I have heard she did a nude scene in another movie, pre-All in the Family, I think a nude Sally Struthers, even when she was young and bouncy, would be akin to swallowing a big slug of Ipecac.

C'mon ... she was hot in those days. Unless you are a breastophobe...

I am not going to let teh horrible *character* she was playing in this film influence my judgment on that.

you may be thinking of five easy pieces with jack nickolson

Before All in the Family she was Hollywoods resident bimbo.

Nice dress. It would look great on my floor.

She was HOT in the 70s (Being 51 I remember them clearly)

She doesn't do a nude scene in "The Getaway"

Can't say for "5 Easy Pieces" (Never was a favorite of mine)

Remember the "Save The Children" commercials she did in the 80s, (She'd gained ALOT of weight)???

After seeing them my first thought was get the kids away from the Buffet when she shows up.

I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney, than driving with Ted Kennedy
