Was McCoy hit by Rudy on the fire escape or not?

At the end, Rudy seems to hit McCoy with his gun. But it's never adressed in the small remainder of the movie...

He was knicked in the ribcage. If you watch when McQueen invites Slim Pickens to step out of the truck in Mexico, he takes a quick check of what looks like a bandage tucked into his belt under the right side of his suit coat.

If you notice in the earlier scene in the hotel hallway, after knocking Rudy unconscious, McCoy grabs Rudy's gun, empties the chamber and tosses the clip down the hallway. As Doc and Carol are escaping through the window, Rudy comes to and picks up his gun, apparently not knowing that it is unloaded, and staggers to a window to take aim at them. How he manages to fire an empty gun at all is pretty amazing.

Rudy had time enough alone to find at least a few of the rounds Doc scattered in the room from Rudy's revolver. Had it been a semi-auto, it would have been fed by a magazine.
