Soundtrack reminds me of Midnight Cowboy

The soundtrack of The Getaway reminds me of Midnight Cowboy from a few years before. I think I remember the slow, hopeless harmonica in both. These two movies had two different but great writers of the soundtrack. Maybe the harmonica player was the same. It gives you the vibe that things just aren't going to work out for the protagonists.

Anyone else here notice the similarity between the "filler soundtrack", not the main songs?

I finally watched the full credits and saw that the harmonica solos were by Toots Thielemans, a Belgian musician who is still alive and still tours. As I guessed, he also performed in Midnight Cowboy, and a few other movies.

Toots is also featured heavily in
The Sugarland Express also starring Ben Johnson. He's probably the best in my opinion!

Seems like quite a few '70's films set in the south made use of mournful or wistful harmonica tracks to establish atmosphere. A little bit tacky-looking now, I guess. I prefer Delbert McClinton anyway.
