a few observations

only the scenes with pleasance carry this film as the underground scenes are ponderous, also an astonshingly unconcerned ladd cheerfully waving a stupidly reciprical gurney left alone on station is utterly ridiculous.
also shocking waste of mr lee and sharon gurneys fab yellow knee boots which never reappear
nice touch of prominent laurel /hardy poster in library

Oh come on the film was excellent and superbly played with a genuine sense of menace throughout!

Go and watch the hills have eyes remake as punishment you two!

I agree, the film has a delicious sense of dread that is sustained throughout. The only rather dubious element was the cameo by Christopher Lee as Stratton-Villiers as I'm not exactly sure what this is for. That said, Lee makes a welcome appearence and plays it with the just the right note of restrained and gentlemanly venom and threat. The performances are all on the button, especially Donald Pleasence, but its the turn by Hugh Armstrong as The Man that really steals the film. Its a touching, sympathetic and terrifying performance that recalls the best of Boris Karloff. Brilliant stuff.

Donald Pleasance steals the film as the tea swilling copper. I also would like to have seen a bit more of Sharon Gurney's yellow boots. Chris Lee was criminally under used however maybe they couldn't afford his fee. Hugh Armstrong who played the cannabil was superb. I actually felt sorry for the poor bugger. The only downer was Alan Ladd who seemed to be impersonating a Thunderbird puppet. He was remarkably unconcerned to say the least. Most of us would be going "fu*k, fu*k, fu*k!!!" to put it mildly. He was useless in the film. Donald Pleasance was right in saying to him "Get you hair cut!" This is one of the best horror films I've seen. A Class act. Mind the doors....

Disagree with you about Ladd's portrayal of Campbell. I've met a number of people like him over my years of living in London. They're self obsessed borderline sociopaths and usually end up working in strategy consulting or banking.

Others become film moguls or the pope.

Let it be unsaid: insignificance is the locus of true increpation.

I think the underground scenes are very atmospheric. The cannibal man's lair is very grim, with mutilated bodies hanging from the walls and severed limbs and body parts scattered around. His appearence is also horrible, his face covered in sores and a constant string of drool hanging from his mouth. It's great horror movie material imo.Donald Pleasance gives one of his best ever performances too!

Love this film, a great late night flick. By the way, Alan Ladd was not in this movie. He had been long dead by then. It was his son in this. Bad mistake from the earlier poster!

I also liked that Army Recruitment poster of Uncle Sam as a skeleton(Grim Reaper?), in the coupleĀ“s living room, it showed the boyfriend to be very anti-war protestant. "Join the U.S Army and die for your country!"
