Many sites list this as a 1972 release.

It is copyrighted 1972, and was a UK production, but the earliest release date listed here is for the US, in 1973.

When was it released to UK cinemas?

Sorry can't help you there. I checked out release dates, but nothing shows up for UK.

It was classified by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) on the 28th September 1972 under the title "Death Line", it would have been released to British cinemas shortly after with an X certificate.If that's any help.
