Observations after watching last night

What's up with all those toasters? I can't believe I never noticed this until last night.

I realize the parents are always off camera in Charlie Brown, but I found it a bit odd that all these kids blow off Thanksgiving with their own families to invite themselves over to Charlie's house. My parents would never let me do that. And how old are they--7 or 8? I can imagine my mom's reaction if I were to say, at the age of 7, "I'm not spending Thanksgiving with you. I've made a last minute decision to go to a friend's house."

Charlie Brown freaks out when he realizes it's 4:00 and he's supposed to be at his grandmothers at 4:30. Are his parents just sitting around waiting for him to finish this crazy feast? I would think it's up to them to leave on time. And then Charlie calls his grandmother and says, "Hi, this is Charlie Brown." Does she need to know his last name when he calls?

A great show that emphasizes bad parenting!

I have never thought about how old they are but I would guess around 10... Anyway, I did mention to my husband that apparently Charlie's family is the only one that celebrates Thanksgiving. :)

You are the second person to mention the toaster thing on here. It is supposed to be funny that they have all of them in order to make all the toast. As for the adults, Peanuts is supposed to be from the point of view of the kids so they do a lot of things that they probably shouldn't do alone. The 4-4:30 part is a writer thing to make it seem like things are desperate and lead up to the resolution that the kids can all go to the grandmother's for a real dinner. And Charlie Brown always has his last name used, even when he says it himself.

I thought about all of these things as well and what about Snoopy hiding the turkey from them?

The other thing is kind of unsettling to think Woodstock would eat another bird!

reply

It's like Nigel the cockatoo in Rio 1 eating chicken. Very disturbing when you think about it.

Sort of like Rosie O'Donnell eating bacon.

My people skills are fine. It's my tolerance of morons that needs work.

It sounds weird if you call him just "Charlie" instead of "Charlie Brown".

You noticed that too, eh?

Well it is not just the parents but it is all adults that are not seen on camera, the only Charlie Brown feature to show adults at all is This is America Charlie Brown. Peppermint Patty calls Charlie Brown and tells him on the phone, that her father got called out of town, and that he told her it would be alright to go over to Charlie Brown's for Thanksgiving, but there is no mention of her mother, either she is not in the picture or she is dead. But the parents of Peppermint Patty, Marci, and Franklin's parents must know and trust Charlie Brown very well enough to let them go over to his house for Thanksgiving, even through it is meant to be a family holiday. I guess they are supposed to be that age, but there ages are never mentioned at all, but you can get away with things in cartoons that you could never get away with in real life. And I bet your mother would have a negative reaction if you had said something about that.

Well of course Charlie Brown freaked out as he still had guests over and didn't know what to do with them, as he had to be there by 4:30, and his grandma ddi come up with a good way to fix Charlie Brown's problem by inviting all his friends over as well to her house, which she could easily not have done. And it also makes you wonder when they pile into the car, and it is seen driving as to who is driving the car, as the parents and adults are never seen.
