'The Inventor of the Stove'
John Adams (futilely) introducing Benjamin Franklin to Martha Jefferson with the line refering to Franklin as "the inventor of the Stove" seems to have caused a lot of confusion to some people over the years -- they think it is the "flat" statement that Benjamin Franklin invented the stove. Adams is actually referring to the specific "Franklin Stove" in particular, and is trying to make the point that Ben is the namesake (inventor) of "the Franklin Stove you've heard about".
