Coming to Blu-ray June 2, 2015.

Sony Pictures will release a Blu-ray edition of "1776" on June 2, 2015.

This will be great.

Some dialog is being restored that was changed at the behest of Jack L. Warner (I guess he was afraid of offending someone). Too bad none of his underlings said, "For God's sake, Jack, sit down!!!"

There will also be a new audio commentary track, and other bells and whistles. Up for preorder now at Amazon.

Reportedly it will contain the 188 extended cut as well as the director's cut.

And here are the special features:

Exclusive Blu-ray Bonus Features Included:

§ All-new commentary with director Peter H. Hunt, William Daniels & Ken Howard

§ Extended Cut of the film

§ Deleted and alternate scenes with Filmmaker Commentary

§ Four never-before-seen Screen Tests

§ Original Theatrical Teaser & Trailer

Also Featured:

§ Commentary with Peter H. Hunt & Peter Stone

§ Archival Screen Tests

I am very excited for this release!

Great news! The details on amazon say the extended cut is available via seamless branching. Wonder if they'll include the theatrical cut as well! I hope so. It may be an incomplete version but it's the one I grew up on. It'd be nice to see it in widescreen.

Can't wait to see what these deleted and alternate scenes are. So happy there's a new commentary, with William Daniels and Ken Howard along with Peter Hunt!

Looks like this will be the definitive 1776 release on bluray. A little less than two months!

reply

Well no theatrical cut, so not quite definitive.

Thank you for the post! Just ordered mine!

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

reply

If they haven't restored the underscoring Peter Hunt deleted from the DVD version, I'll pass.

It'd be nice to read a review from someone who's seen the movie before.
