Slightly OT: A novel recommendation for 1776 enthusiasts.
I'm about two-thirds of the way through America's First Daughter by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie. It's an EXTREMELY well-written novel about the life of Thomas Jefferson's daughter, Martha ("Patsy") Jefferson Randolph. It focuses on her devotion to her father and his principles and her mixed feelings when this slams up against other things, such as her early love for her father's secretary William Short, and--most significantly--his liaison with Sally Hemings.
It's excellent so far and I highly recommend it--it's rather long, but worth reading. I look forward to future efforts by these authors.
The interesting thing is that there's going to be another novel on the same subject matter coming out later this year--Monticello by Sally Gunning. This author wrote an excellent novel called Ben Franklin's Bastard under the name Sally Cabot, so I look forward to this one especially.
