Howard Da Silva's Other Franklin Performance

After 1776, Howard Da Silva played Benjamin Franklin again for a 20 minute movie about Franklin's life that played at the Franklin Court Museum in Philadelphia from the late 1970s through about the early 1990s I think. Having seen "1776" before I saw this film at the museum it was easy to latch into it as a companion piece to the musical, especially on the matter of Franklin's relationship with his son (as well as exploring the rest of his family).

I never thought I'd see the film again after its time at the museum ended but someone got hold of a copy from the Parks Service and its on YT now!

Thank you for this link. I'm outside of Philly, and I definitely remember this film from a class trip. It's funny, I had the reverse situation from you: I came upon 1776 much later in my life, I never put the two together and realized it was the same person!

Thanks again.

You're welcome! It's one of those great little items that few people get a chance to learn about, let alone get the chance to see again after its shelf life in a museum display ends. The makers of the film clearly knew I think a lot of people would draw from the "1776" connection when tapping Da Silva for the part.

So that WAS him! I saw this on a class trip when I was a kid! I knew there was a reason that Da Silva seemed familiar to me when I saw 1776 a few years later!
