I hung in there based on your rave reviews

I recorded this and was 10 minutes in and wanting to stop and delete it, but I read a bunch of reviews on here and thought I would be patient. I watched thru the end. I must say, I just don't get how so many of you think this is a great movie. Making a musical out of this time period is so stupid and kind of condescending. It was painful to watch.

I guess all there is to say, is sorry you didn't like it. Tastes vary, as my grandmother always said, that is why they make both vanilla and chocolate.

It's a movie. If you can let yourself go and enjoy the creativity, then you'll like it. If you want something a bit more true to presentation, then yeah, this probably isn't the movie for you.

Hamilton has a part set in the same time period, and even has Thomas Jefferson as a character shared between the two shows (also John Adams, who's not seen in Hamilton, but mentioned quite a bit). However, it's doing well with critics and a lot of the public. So explain your point?

1776 is an unusual musical in that a lot going on in it shouldn't work, including the record for longest time in a musical without a song. A lot of the debating in Congress drags, but this is a film for those who'll listen to those words. Hamilton in comparison found a way to turn similar moments into songs.

What we see and what we seem are but a dream. A dream within a dream.

Whether you liked it or not is completely up to you and no one can gainsay your opinion.

However, I fail to see how making a musical out of this time period is stupid or condescending. How, exactly, do you justify that position?

The trollers have a new technique. Instead of taking issues with others' posts, they take issue with the work using words meant to deliberately provoke controversy. Doesn't change what it is, or the glory of the work.

Besides just a story of founding of the nation, it's a story about death, loss, sacrifice, courage and what it means to have selflessness and determination, something that's often in short supply with our leadership these days, much as it was back in 1969.

"Can you imagine trying to borrow even a dollar from one of those guys?"

I just saw it for the first time (in 4k) and I really, really loved it. Historical films can be boring but this was very entertaining.
