"BJ Hunnicut M.D." Spinoff

Would that have worked like the "Trapper John M.D." TV series?

Interesting that the producers of Trapper John MD were able to convince the law courts that their series was a spinoff from the movie rather than the TV series (to avoid paying royalties to the TV series producers).

I'm not sure. Trapper John MD ran from 1979-86 with established and popular (Bonanza) actor Pernell Roberts and heartthrob Greg Harrison, 4 of its season running simultaneously with MASH.

House Calls, another doctor show though unrelated to MASH and starring Wayne Rogers ran from 1979-82. IIRC it started out well but died in its last season; it also ran at the same time as MASH.

After MASH (1983-85) didn't do well at all.

Maybe people were tired of MASH after 11 seasons; and again IIRC the "era" of doctors shows were in the '60s and '70s before starting up again in the '90s. Also I'm not so sure how popular an actor Mike Farrell was on his own outside of Capt. Hunnicutt.

It may have lasted a couple of seasons.

I would rather have seen a spinoff such as Radar's Farm or Igor's Diner, featuring that guy who doled out the slop in the mess tent. Or maybe even something featuring Sergeants Zale and Rizzo.

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

Radar did have a spinoff called W*A*L*T*E*R where he played a policeman!

I've written my own spin-off about Charles.

i thought b J ws boring, so i wouldn't have watched it. And as he wsn't in the film, they couldn't have avoided royalties.

I saw Mike in an episode of SVU where he played the wheelchair bound husband of a woman who turned out to be a '60s radical fugitive-from-justice accused murderer who had hidden her identity for 30 years. He was pretty dull in that as well.
