I can pick out a couple of more goofs in M*A*S*H 1 Radar is helping Hawkeye to cheat in a poker game he is spying for him on haweyes opponents cards and knows about poker , but in a later episode Radar intervenes on a poker game and asked the other players do they know go fish intending he knows nothing about poker 2 Col Potter offers Radar his first cigar and he's not keen on it , but in an earlier episode Radar is caught by General Barker in Henry's office smoking a cigar and drinking brandy .and enjoying them both 3 the time difference is mentioned I think it's Chicago time this time it is mentioned 18 hrs behind and BJ says it's 2am where they are in Korea and so it must be 8 pm the night before in Chicago I only make that 6 hrs behind . There's probably plenty more but those ones stand out for me , I love the show but I just like that sought of trivia
The time difference is very elastic on the show. Sometimes, it's as much as three days and can be as little as no difference at all.
Yeah, there are a lot of goofs, more than there should be in some cases, like Potter's ever-changing family, but I think Radar's changes are kind of necessary. By the middle seasons, he didn't look young, so him being worldly was dull. Having him regress mentally made sense.
I don't know if this is as much a goof or a nitpick, but they seemed to get things from home pretty fast. Like Charles getting imported water from his parents when there was a shortage or Radar writing his mother to get his toboggan cap sent to him before Christmas. Also, Trapper seemed to get his wife's approval to adopt Kim pretty fast too.
The one that was really fast to me was when it was BJ's anniversary and they somehow managed to get the tape shipped to Peg, she makes a movie, has it developed, and shipped back to him. I don't know how long that was supposed to take, but that would have been at least a month.
A real goof in that poker game where Radar uses the telescope (wonder where they got that so fast?)
...At one point, Baker is in his undershirt and we see this through the telescope....but in some shots, we see Baker's green army shirt is back on again.
===================
As for MASH's timeline, well, the war lasted June 25th, 1950 to July 27th, 1953.....that's 1,127 days to cover. I think they just simply go back & forth through the war.
..and since the show (NOT the war) was 11 seasons, that gave them a lot of leg room to make different stories set in different days or years of the Korean War.
I don't understand why it's such a big deal & complaint though.
P.S. - I emphasized 'not the war' because I really have no patience with people who think or even say that, the writers & all involved made the Korean War 11 years long. Stupid.
Go for it or just be a gopher! (MR.) happipuppi13 🐕 *arf, man!*
Just a guess would be that Radar somehow borrowed the scope from a sniper, but I can't remember what the scope looks like or if it's even military.
I never noticed that with the shirt.
There's another one with Leslie Nielson where he goes to his tent and someone sneaks in a glass of milk while he's not looking, but the milk is already there before he looks, then it's gone when he looks, then someone puts it there before he looks again. The idea is that he's supposed to see that it's not there, but it already is when it's not supposed to be.
I didn't nitpick or complain , just I like these sort of goofs / trivia here's another Radar is all for animals but in one episode radar clearly is going to eat a lamb roast with mint jelly of which the cook traded for a pair of long johns with radar (Hawkeyes originally) in another Ep not to far a long in the series radar is saving a lamb and he sends it back to his home in Iowa saved from being eaten by the Greek soldiers who throw party for mash 4077 and this wouldn't have been forgotten by the writers so quickly surely . Thanks for your responses anyway
In the episode "Welcome to Korea" as Hawkeye and Radar are bringing B.J to the 4077th they get a flat tire.
Being that they were under fire from a band of natives that disappeared into the woods, they left the flat tire where it was, instead of putting it back on the back of the Jeep.
On the rest of the trip the tire is gone until they pull up to Rose's bar. Suddenly it's back. It stays back until they get back to the camp where Hawkeye introduces B.J to Frank and Margaret.
The next morning, outside the office not only is the Jeep turned around, but the tire that was suddenly back is now gone again.

I never noticed that with the tire. I'll look for it the next time I watch it.
What I want to know is, why did the guerillas go to the woods before opening fire? They gained no advantage by doing so when BJ, Hawkeye, and Radar were visibly unarmed and sitting ducks.
What I want to know is, why did the guerillas go to the woods before opening fire? They gained no advantage by doing so when BJ, Hawkeye, and Radar were visibly unarmed and sitting ducks.
Probably because they wanted to make sure of three things first.
One: They didn't know who B.J, Hawkeye and Radar were. They could've easily been armed. If the guerrillas were noticed grabbing their guns, then an armed Radar, Hawkeye, or B.J could shot first. Before the Guerrillas even got their guns they could've been dead or wounded.
It would take more than a few seconds to turn, drop their packs, get then guns and then open fire. If the three in the Jeep saw it happening, and they were armed, the guerrillas would be dead before even getting their guns
two: What if there was an armed group behind the Jeep, only about 20 seconds away and around a turn. Like I said above it would take them a bit of time to shoot. If in the time it took form them to turn, drop their packs, grab their guns and aim, another Jeep or truck arrived, it would leave them covered front to back with little chance of escape.
three: Cover. As we saw, the Jeep was excellent cover. More than enough cover to give them a place to keep safe while shooting, while the guerrilla had no cover. The woods were cover, great cover.

Number 2 makes the most sense: leave the lead jeep alone and go for the whole column. Once they see there is no column, they go back to attacking the lone jeep.
The other two points are good and valid points, but if it was me, I think Number 3 would be moot. I think I could draw a pistol or rifle and shoot three unprepared men before they could react.
Well if Hawk, B.J and Radar were totally exposed, and out in the open the cover might not be an issue.
However, Hawkeye was already had the Jeep between him and the guerrillas, and so had good cover. B.J also had a good share of the Jeep between them. That would be more than enough cover for them to dive in an instant, especially since the instant the Guerrillas turned, Hawkeye, having been in a warzone for a while, would've shouted "take cover".
Now I know next to nothing about guns and shooting since I despise guns. However, I do know that in a situation like they were in, and the way that Hawkeye noticed instantly, they would've needed more than a few seconds to be ready to shoot. The element of surprise would be lost.

My favorite M*A*S*H goof occurs in the final episode; I call it 'The Magic Tent.'
A wounded soldier drives his tank into the compound, flattening the latrines. The tank is attracting enemy fire, so Klinger erects a tent over it to hide it. The ruse doesn't work, though, and the enemy continue to shell the 4077th. Finally, Hawkeye dashes out to the tent, fires up the tank and drives it to the camp garbage dump.
Here's the goof: When the tank drove into the camp, it as an M24 Chaffee. When it drove out of the tent, it was an M4 Sherman.
Thus I can only conclude that the tank was transformed by the Magic Tent.
I was thinking magic a few posts up about Trapper getting from the mess tent to a position of throwing a football. Now a magic tent.
Apparently the 4077 was an outpost of the American version of Hogwart's School of Wizardry and Magic. Trapper disapparated outside and picked up a loose football (or used an invisibility cloak.) Another person (or maybe even Trapper) used a changing spell to transform the tank... or possibly an illusion spell to make you think it changed to a Sherman.
How about in season one Hawkeye had both a sister and mother and then after season 2 it was just his dad. What happened to the rest of Hawkeye's family? Guess they wound up in the same place as Chuck Cunningham.
In season 6 Major Topper, Charles talks about his sister's past wedding whereas in season 8 Bottle Fatigue, he is all worked up over his sister's engagement. He only had one sister.
That one slipped by me. I remember the ep where he was angry about who Honoria was going to marry, but I've forgotten the ep where she's already married. Good catch.
