If there is anyone on the show who does not deserve to be the victim of a prank, its Radar.
And if they are going to pull a prank on him then they should have had a better motive. Like he pranks them first which we know he would never do.
He would even help them out with their schemes and that was the thanx he got?

I don't know if you are serious or not but he was actually promoted to Second Lt. With an increase in pay and responsibility. Not a prank a promotion. He didn't like it after all and asked if he could be busted back down to Corporal. Which he was. Although why Potter even allowed it and didn't look into it is beyond me.

Potter didn't look into it further since he was probably used to weird things happening in the Army throughout his decades of service.

No, it was a prank. Had Potter gone one step higher than the sergeant in on the ploy he would've learned that they knew nothing about it and that he was still a corporal.
IIRC during that scene (asking to be demoted) BJ and Hawkeye just told him "ok you're a corporal again." They didn't go up the chain of command. Also, logically speaking, why would they have a lieutenant clerking for a medical unit? In a real MASH, probably a lieutenant would be in charge of the office, but not in the tv version of the 4077. Along with the promotion would have come a transfer to some other facility where his service would be needed.

Strange. I never took it as a prank on Radar. I don't ever remember them saying they were going to prank him. Unless I'm watching the TV versions where something was cut out. I always took it as the Sergeant that couldn't pay his poker debt would make up for it by promoting Radar (on the sly). He even offers to promote Hawkeye to Major. But, again, maybe just missing something.
shareAnd another thing: Radar was given new insignia for his uniform. It's not like Potter got the letter of promotion and had Second Lt. bars laying around for him to wear. I'm still going with the notion that they were legitimately trying to help him.

It didn't start out as a prank but ended up as one inspired by BJ after the Sgt. offered promotions to Hawk and Beej to pay off his poker debt.

That summery is exactly how I believed the episode to go. I thought from the the Subject Heading you meant that they had deliberately started off by wanting to really F__K with Radar and I just never saw it that way. I took it as if the Sergeant couldn't pay his poker debt right then he could make it right by "promoting" Radar up to 2nd Lieutenant. I can understand the paperwork not being approved by top brass - only the Sergeant slipping it by and having it approved - (something Radar had done many times on the sly with his CO's). Someone even posted that Radar was never actually promoted and was still a Corporal. But in the summery it said he was. And then asked to be busted back when B.J.'s and Hawkeye's "joke" backfired. So, joke? Yes. But a good one that helped Radar out. Prank? Not seeing it.

It's right there in the description when BJ suggests, "Lt. Radar."
How can you not see that was a prank?
Isn't a prank a joke pulled on someone who isn't in on the joke?

I totally know what you are saying. What I'm saying is it never seemed to me that it started off as a "mean" prank. I always took it as them trying to help him. I'm not saying I'm right, but it never felt that they were doing something nasty. I still want to get other's opinions on this. Not trying to make it an I'm right your wrong contest. Just want to see how other's saw it. So far, from my count on this post, we have this:

1 (me) not a mean prank and they were trying to help him.
Okay maybe it is a contest. But all in good fun. And I'm losing. Anyone else want to 2 cent this?
