Colonel Flagg Was More Fun Than Sidney Freedman

They should have had Flagg as a regular guest star instead of Sidney.

Flagg: You took a yellow red before a white American. That's pretty pinko.
Hawkeye: You're even boring in Technicolor.

They were both frequent stars.

Flagg was there for 6 episodes, and Edward Winter was there for a total of 7 if you include his initial episode as Cap. Halloran.

Sid was there for 12, including GFA.

Destroying an empire to win a war is no victory and ending a battle to save an empire is no defeat

reply

Exactly.

I've always wondered if Halloran was just meant to be retconned as another of Flagg's aliases. Obviously that was not the intention at first. They hadn't developed the character yet.

reply

I don't know why they didn't use again after "Rally Round the Flagg"; it almost seems his humiliation at the hands of Charles was intended as a swan song. I enjoy his episodes a lot, though I'm still a Sidney fan as well. I was really hoping he'd show up in the finale.

Sidney was a bore and his advice and observations were average at best, nothing that anyone watching the show couldn't already see.

Flagg was great, he could have crossed over in a Get Smart episode.

Totally agree with this thread and its posts. Sidney was a pompous, arrogant, liberal POS who doled out google-advice for anybody to figure out. Complete phony, a fraud in my book. Total charlatan.

Flagg was the real deal--tough, direct, regular Army, and was always on to those snivelling bastards.

Loved Col. Flagg!!

Movies and TV are poor reflections of the way shrinks, counselors and therapy sessions happen in real life.

Damn I'm good.

reply

Agreed.
More Flagg who was the satire of American views could have been needed.

Did they think of having Friedman certify Flagg?

reply

Agreed! Way more fun than Sidney. I would have liked to have seen him in one or two episodes per season.

reply

Having Flagg win on occasion too would have made life interesting for the characters and us too.
