Ending of the stone.

the episode "the stone". the episode where there is a black guy who can fight in Capoeira and the three kids who go to kill the Armenian.
at the end, kaine is handed the diamond that belonged to the Capoeira guy by one of the kids, and kaine passes it onto the new marshal type guy.
why does kaine give it to this man?

I would have thought he should give it directly to the black guy (after the story of how he came to posses it. the slavery of his family etc.) as it seems nobody in the wild west can be trusted.

perhaps it is kaine's belief that it is down to the authorities to decide the rightful owner of the gem. perhaps he trusts the new marshal to return it to the Capoeira fighter (after the way he stood up for justice at the home of the three kids)

perhaps a man who does not believe in possessions cares not who has the diamond, believing that everyman is complete within themselves and a diamond is inconsequential (let the authorities decide if they must. even though the Capoeira fighter could definitely use it).

it just seemed odd that Kaine give it to the marshal.

some questions:

gun threat.

what is Kaine's view on having guns pointed at him?

in situations when somebody is pointing a gun at Kaine and threatening him, but not likely to shoot. should Kaine attack them?
I would have thought his beliefs would lead him not to retaliate unless there was immediate and likely threat, as somebody could end up getting shot.
but it seems (watch episode 1/14 for 2 examples) that if you point a gun at him, that is threat enough for him to take you out (and I think rightly so)

keeping too quiet?

when somebody accuses kaine of something, he never seems to bother trying to explain what happened. for example, in the episode where kaine gets sent to the mine/prison where they have found Indian bones, he is caught stealing rice. but it seems that once he is caught, he never tries to tell them that he has already left the money on the counter, he just keeps quiet and they arrest him. or are we supposed to assume that he tells them but we don't see it and they just don't believe him?

If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88mph...
You're gonna see some serious sh!t!

reply

He may have given it to the authorities because the black man(Moses Gunn)told Caine he had stolen it from the miners he was enslaved to in Brazil.

ya, he stole the gem and even though the enslavers stole many lives, remember when caine says no one is entitled to revenge(eye for an eye).
