And still entertains. Not many movies from this era can do that. I looked up '70s children's movies' and none of them are worth anything by today's standards.
The 70’s is often considered the best decade for movies (I personally give that award to the 90s) so many would disagree with your assertion that 70’s movies fail to entertain.
I would agree that as far as children’s movies go the 70’s did not produce as many classics as earlier and later decades.
70’s Hollywood was characterised as creatively daring but nihilistic and depressing. A kind of raw, nasty cinema verité style pervaded, which is the polar opposite of what children want to see.
I am not that into a lot of movies from the 70s. My favorite movies from that era besides Willy Wonka are Tales from the Crypt, One Flew Over the cuckoo's nest, King Kong, Superman, and Halloween. I'd say Star Wars as well except I only have access to the special edition George Lucas made which edited in CGI scenes like Jaba meeting Han or showing that Giant Lizard that the jawa swings from.
I don't like the Godfather and find it boring. The Excorcist I saw last October and I don't want to see it again. I don't like things about demons (I believe demons are real). Also I saw Jaws as a kid and have been meaning to see it again but haven't gotten around to it. And before you criticize me for not liking the Godfather, I like Driving Miss Daisy, Gettysburg, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, and a Simple Twist of Fate. But Godfather is too slow paced for me. So is Lost in Translation.
Yes. The title character played by Marlon Brando dies of a heart attack. But I didn't care cause I didn't like him or anybody else in the movie. I tried giving it a second chance and couldn't get through it. Just too slow paced for me.
