Hopped up to over 160

When Kowalski is first getting the speed from his dealer at the parking lot he tells the dealer the car is hopped up to over 160. What the heck is he talking about? Usually back then people talked about the engine displacement size (in cubic inches), hemi or not in Mopar, or horse power. Clearly 160 was neither of these, did he mean top speed maybe? Would seem like a funny way to say that!

I'm sure he was referring to top speed in 70s lingo.

it was miles per hour and thats takes some work. ya'd have to have special tires to go that fast a 'w' or a 'y' rated tire. .... 'v' rated tires (normal high preformance tires) won't go that fast (safely) and ya'd need a topped out transmission and rear end geard up to go that high, gear ratio wise and engine rpm wise. so it can be done, but it'd be a specialy built car. the horspower for cars back then were out of this world, and could do 160 no problem. in fact they used to downplay the horspower of a lot of cars back then as the govenment was woried about it (crash wise) but if ya put on headers instead of an ordinary exhaust pipes and nothing else ya can easily get the horse power needed.

ratings of top speed for tires ... an ordinary tire can't go that fast... safely
