Were the dogs in the river actually dead?

How do they get dogs to play dead underwater?
The dogs looked real.
I'm guessing they didn't kill the dogs did they?
I asked a similar question about the cat in Truck Turner - btw. That sure looked real when they hung a cat in that movie.

reply

I'm not sure but they did look real, probably was since the make-up on the humans was really amateurish I doubt they would have been able to make-up fake dogs that well. But oh well, it was 1971 the dogs have been dead for decades now.

RIP Paul Newman 1925-2008. Words can't express how much you will be missed.

How bout the cat that gets hung in Truck Turner... (see Truck Turner msg boards) ?

-D.

reply

They might have used stuffed dogs.

According to MVP's book on making this movie, he slipped some money to the local animal shelter and walked off with two already dead dogs, which then appeared in the scene.

I hope that is the case though.

Thank you for your response. It made me laugh. Yes, Isaac Hayes was a scientologist - which is stupid. Then again, aren't all religions stupid?

ps: how do you sing hot melted butter?
Never heard that expression.

pps: who's Moggy?

ppps: i doubt the same cat will be able to appear in the sequel. LOL.

"Hot Buttered Soul" was the hit that Hayes had back in the early Seventies. I think it was his album right before doing the soundtrack to Shaft.

Just like in The Godfather they used a real horse's head in that famous scene, these were probably real (already) dead dogs.

In another topic discussing this very subject, it was said that the already dead dogs were bought from a butcher.
