This movie is great. I Am Legend was pretty good. I actually haven't seen The Last Man on Earth, yet. The Omega Man and I Am Legend are both helped by their main stars. I Am Legend would have been unbearable to watch with Colin Farrell instead of Will Smith, for instance.
___
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.
I've seen all three, but I recommend in another topic that you see "The World, The Flesh and The Devil".
The Omega Man took a lot from this film, and I Am Legend also seemed to grab from it also.
One thing in particular is talking to the mannequin. In TOM, they took the idea from "World", and reworked it into the bust of Caesar. I think IAL writers figured "World" was so old and sort of a different idea in the fact that it deals with the last man aspect, without a vampire style enemy, that they could grab more from it and go to the mannequins.
I enjoyed "World" and felt it could have been 20-30 minutes longer to flesh out the characters and give it a better ending than it had.
So, out of these four films, while they all had strengths and weakness, the Price and Smith films are closer to the bottom.
i haven't seen any of the other versions, but a review book i read calls hestons performance a superior one, i can't understand why so much of this board is racking down on this movie, it's rolling on a classic movie channel i get together with soylent green and i sometimes for a moment get them confused together but i always get disappointed when i realize its not this very movie. love the 1970's soundtrack, settings and everything, and also the villain is one of my favorite bad guys actors.
push you back in,
differences aside,
when you come back to town,
unless you wanna push me out.
