Just so you know, that mg was far from an ak47 which is Russian and fires a 7.62×39 round. Heston carried a Smith & Wesson M76 which was a 9mm submachine gun. At the end of the film, the smg he had is a German MP40, same caliber as the S&W.
I will agree, very cool indeed for that time. Also, the Mustang and especially the Dodge WC56 command car ruled. I loved his suit for dinner. That could have been considered 70's hip.
