why is this so dificult to see

a fantastic series from the 70's and the TV companies don't sem to want to repeat it. Some of the hackneyed old crap that turns up repeatedly on the TV should be forever consigned to the dump and make way for this show. At least release it on DVD or video. By the way Darren McGavin was excellent as Kolchak.

I did and it wasn't there, but thanks I guess I'll just keep looking.

I agree, one of the best "non-gross" suspense thrillers produced. Both movies were good as was the series. It is on DVD for over $100, but it is rare. Why it's like this I don't know. Rumor has it that both movies are being re-released during the summer of 2004. One can only hope and hope also that the series follows, and that both have some of the best extras they can muster up.

The Night Stalker/Night Strangler is now available on DVD.

Hej,I bought the Stalker/Strangler. It comes as a 2-sided DVD, rather than the double that was first announced. Nitpicking of course, since what you get is THE template for the X-Files.

Excellent quality and recommended viewing! But you already knew that:-)

I agree about the quality. The features are sparse -- two interviews with Dan Curtis -- and even Curtis manages to avoid mentioning the brilliant source novel by Jeff Rice, mentioning only Richard Matheson's script version. (I guess Rice is used to this treatment by now, though.)

Nevertheless, the quality of both films is very good. Perfectionists might nit-pick that "The Night Strangler" has been "restored" with additional footage, and is NOT the original version that was seen on ABC. (Commercial breaks have also been removed.) Even so, the additional footage is not uninteresting. It appears that this version of "Strangler" was intended for TV syndication, to pad the movie out to two hours (with commercials).

By the way, I agree with the original poster. In light of the junk that DOES air over and over on TV, why are these movies almost never seen on cable or broadcast television? That's just idiotic.

At least we finally have the DVD. I found it at the price of $9.99. How could I pass it up?

They show up on the SciFi channel marathons sometimes.

I suppose you mean "homemade" DVD's...? Not that there is anything wrong with that.
