I would be grateful if someone can identity the make and type of watch Steve McQueen is wearing in this movie. Velda

Actually, it was a Heuer Monaco. Heuer was founded in 1860. It was purchased by a company called Techniques d'Avante Garde in 1985 (TAG) in 1985, thus becoming TAG Heuer. Watches produced before 1985 are marked with the company's original name...Heuer. Watches made after 1985 are marked "TAG Heuer".

The Monaco that TAG Heuer makes now is a reproduction of the famous "McQueen" Heuer Monaco produced during the 1970's. The watches look the same, but inside they are different. The original was powered by one of the original automatic chronograph movements...the legendary Caliber 11. Original vintage Heuer Monacos...particularly the blue-dialed "McQueen" model, are very valuable today.

That is good info. I didn't know that about the Calibre 11. I own the newer "McQueen" Monaco and it is a Calibre 16. It's the favorite watch I own.

The original Heuer watch worn by McQueen in the film has a slightly different face to the modern version. On the original, the winder button is on the left hand side of the watch and the the 'start' and 'stop' buttons are on the right and they are also cylindrical. On the new version all three buttons are on the right and the 'start and 'stop' buttons are elongated hexagonal-shaped. TAG released two commemorative versions in 2005 to mark what would have been McQueens 75th birthday. One has a white face with blue and red stripes on the right side of the dial to match the outfit he wore in the film. The other has a black face with orange and blue stripes.
