I'm watching it now after having watched this year's edition of the real 24 Hours of Le Mans. Interesting to note that the announcer stated that the lap track record time for prior year was 3 minutes 20 seconds. That's what this year's cars were lapping at as well. Just goes to show how fast those "old" cars really were back in the day and how quick today's cars are even with all the chicanes and other devices around the track to slow the cars down.

"old" cars were capable of 240 miles per hour (Porsche 917) and 220 miles per hour (Ferrari 512) every lap and all laps along Mulsanne Straight for 24 hours in 1970. Also, this is when I believe the period of slick tyre technology began.
