If by bashing you mean deriding him, believe me that's nothing compared to what racing drivers have done all thoughout the history of the sport.
If you mean contact between the cars...Le Mans is brutal! It is supposed to be a none contact discipline, but you only have to look at the state of some of the cars, literally held together with speed tape and even missing entire body panels, after 24 hours. Everyone wants to reach the finish line, but 'rubbing' isn't uncommon even now.
