DvD Commentary.
I must say that Sir Christopher Frayling provides one of the most apt commentaries I have ever heard. It was nearly as good as the movie itself.

Get rid of Schickel. That guy has never said a single thing of value.

Schickel never says anything that anyone couldn't have seen for himself and he often talks over some very interesting shots stylistically without even going into their importance. Once he starts talking about some character actor or some vague generalized issue, he will keep going and let shot after shot pass by with no direct commentary. His additions are just basically pointless.
shareI agree, personally I'd say he was the best DVD commentator alive. His other commentaries on Leone films are very good aswel I think his commentry for Once Upon a Time in the West is his best. It's a shame he didn't provide commentary for The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
shareYeah, why did he do A fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars, but not The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?
shareDidn't he also do The Magnificent 7 as a second track?
One of my favorites is Levinson's commentary for Rain Man because he mentions a friend of mine Ralph Tabakin who appeared in all of his films. RM is a particular favorite of mine because I have Asberger's, and the writers are very informative on the subject. Ralph was the casino security man who figures out how Hoffman and Cruise are making so much money at blackjack.
Two of the least interesting commentaries for me were Heston on Ben-Hur and Jack Lemmon on Mister Roberts.
The Getaway is the only commentary by Peckinpan and McQueen, and like The Wild Geese, ends abruptly. Max Allan Collins is excellent on Secret Agent X-9, but I guess four hours for a serial was too long and redundant.
Once Upon a Time in America deserves a better commentary too. Schickel's work on that is only of value if you are unable to see.
The Man with the Harmonica: When you hear a strange sound, drop to the ground.
I watch the movie with the directors commentary on subtitles makes it alot better to watch.
the crocodile just wouldnt flush down the toilet
