Anatevka

Why was Tevyes' village named Anatevka in Fiddler when I understand that the village was named Boyberik in the novels by Sholom Aleichem? Boyberik was the fictional name for the real town of Boyarka, now in Ukraine. I am a geography person so I am concerned.

Unless one the people directly involved in the creation / writing of the Broadway said something publicly about that specific point (and I don't know one way or the other about that), we are unlikely to ever know.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if it was done simply to get a name that flowed better in their song lyrics. Such things have been known to happen in the writing of musicals.

Anatevka fits much more neatly into a song lyric than Boiberik. Lots of vowels.

I'm serious, by the way. And Anatevka is mentioned in the original Sholom Aleichem stories as a nearby village.
