Pre-credits monologue

At the very beginning Tevye says. "A fiddler on the roof... Sounds crazy, no? But here in our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof."

Then at the end of it he says, "Without our traditions, our lives would be as shaky as, as… as a FIDDLER ON THE ROOF!"

So are they all fiddlers on their roofs or not?

The fiddler on the roof is a parable for the Jews. All throughout history we have been singled out and different bc of our religion. The fiddler is the Jews being on the roof is keeping our religion and our traditions is what keeps our balance.
