Schnapps? Why not vodka?
In L'Chaim, it mentions in the lyrics that they're drinking schnapps. Why would they be drinking that instead of vodka?

Many years ago, when I took a poetry class in college, I learned that the amount of words and syllables in a sentence affects the flow and meter of a rhyme. So it could be because of that. (The word "schnapps" has a syllable less than "vodka" does.) Additionally, the lyrics that you mentioned were sung by the Jews, before the Gentile Russians joined in. Perhaps the Jews drank schnapps, while the regular Russians drank vodka.
