I'd love to see more movies with ray lovelock, even paul michael glaser. they played some awesome roles

I only saw these 2 actors in this particular movie. Perchik was pretty cool, & although Fyedka did seem like a nice guy, we didn't see enough of him in this movie(Due to the fact that he was a Christian, & hence, did not live in the Jewish village) to form a particular attachment to him.

I only saw these 2 actors in this particular movie.

Then I have to figure that you are either noticeably younger than me or are not American. (I suppose that there is also a small chance that you were an American who didn't have a TV in the late-70s.)

In my experience, Americans above a certain age tend to think of Glaser first and foremost as the Starsky half of the 70s cop show Starsky and Hutch. If I'm remembering right, I think that he moved over to directing later in his career (mostly in TV, I think).

Yes, I am younger than you.

No I didn't see Starsky & Hutch, but, as a Canadian& we see pretty much most American TV shows & movies). I did know of the series.

Both men were worthy in their own way.
There's really no comparison.

Chava was a fool. She never should have looked twice at Fyedka. Back then you rolled with your own. Chava and Fyedka barely knew each other. He probably became a total prick after they got married.

Apparently, in the original story, he did. However, for the musical, they made him into a genuinely nice guy.

Besides that, what makes you think that they barely knew one another? The first time they meet, is when Tzeitel got engaged, & Fyedka stood up for Chava in the corn field from those creeps who were either a)anti-semetic pricks, and/or b) intent on raping her.

By the time Chava tries to get her father's permission to marry Fyedka, many months have passed, & the 2 of them got to know one another real well, & realized their feelings for one another.

splashen, he thinks that they barely knew each other because the movie version hardly shows them together. In the play, however, not only is there more interaction between Chava and Fyedka, but Yente also tells Tzeitel that she's seen Chava and Fyedka together many times.

I never saw the stage musical myself, but, I felt that even the movie indicated that by the time Chava tried to get her father's permission, she & Fyedka got to know one another very well, to fall in love with him.

Fyedka was a dreamboat in the movie itself. Although it was so sad when they said they were "heading to Poland" at the end. One of the worst places Jews could go right before Hitler.... :(

From what I have read online, Chava remained socially dead to her family & community until she left her Christian husband (I read his name wasn't Fyedka in the original story, but, something else), & the reason why she left him was because he was abusive towards her.

The line from Matchmaker where Tzeitel & Hodel sing "He'll beat you every night," was probably a shout-out to that original version.
