How'd he not get fired by the beauracrats?

I just saw it for the first time in years. He threw his badge away, but at the same time he ends up doing a bunch of sequels.

When the original turned out to be so popular (and profitable), they had to follow it up with a sequel. At least, in the first movie, he quit of his own free will, which made it a bit more believable that he could have reconsidered and come back.

Well Harry did save the bus load of kids. Even though he was ordered not too, and it could have gone the other way, and he could have gotten the kids further harmed because of what he did, it got lucky and saved them, and I think that is why he was considered a hero because of luck, but they probably would have lectured him on it for sure.

...especially if the newspapers published articles about it, and touted him as a hero; after that, the public would lambaste the police department for firing him.
