Hot Mary

Either the name was intended to be ironic, like 'little John', or else she was intended to be a hot woman whom a peeping Tom could get a kick out of spying on.

If it's the latter, it's interesting how filmmakers' perception of hot has changed since 1971. I doubt you'd find many films these days with a character called 'Hot Mary' played by anyone overweight.

well, "Hot" has also been known to mean promiscuous.....which could be what the ringleader of sleaze-bags that beat up on Harry had meant.

reply

It's meant to sort of poke fun of the class of the people who call her hot. Think of it as a redneck joke that's not set in the south.

reply

Even in 1971, she wasn't hot in an attractive sense. Just think of it as "kinky."

Watching It On THE Sundance channel. ....they edited that scene! I'm so pissed! They edit it so no one calls her "Hot Mary"! I didn't think she was hot either. Probably just the neighborhood "Good Time Girl"

Sundance Channel sucks. No reason to watch a movie there. Chopping up with commercials is one thing, but they edit for content. Pretty sad that a station named after a film festival has no little respect for films.

The hot one in her apartment thought! When Harry is spying on her with his binoculars. WOW 

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.
