lol. If this were made today

This movie was made 45 years ago.

I bet if it was made today, the same exact way, obviously different actors, it would not be a 7.8/10 movie lol. Not even because Clint Eastwood was in it.

You could have Johnny Depp play Harry
Clifton Collins playing the killer.

It would be a total failure at box office.

I'm 27 years old, about half as old as this movie, and I just barely watched it for the first time from beginning to end. I've seen bits N pieces. But I've never seen it through. I think it's absolutely THE most overrated movie of all time. It's referenced in so many modern day movies. But what was so good about it? The plot is not only stupid, but impossible. They could've arrested him for multiple things before the kidnapping.

"Balletic evidence doesn't mean *beep* Lolol

Maybe I guess back then it didn't. But jeeze, what a waste of my last high I'll ever get as a drug addict.

Uhm ok. Calm down?
I mean, I didn't praise the movie or anything. It took me more than 20 years until I saw it. And that was last week.
But it was alright.
Took a while until the movie picked up the paste but that's my opinion.

But yea you're right about it being a flop if it was made today.
And it's not surprising that movies from the mid 1900s gets undeserving credit.
Because they are simply being original.
Not everything has to be great. Far from it.
But you really just had to come up with something new or new-ish.
Today it's much more difficult without coming across as a copy-cat.

Since 1971, the liberals "won" and have sent the cops out on the street with both hands handcuffed behind their back, as it were. No, you couldn't remake this movie today -- unless you made it a period peice with a 1960's to 1970's setting.

Too bad DIRTY HARRY doesn't do it for you, but the more modern cop thrillers that are being made today probably couldn't have been made in 1971, either -- so, there ya go!

I have that certain feeling thst no amount of reason and persuasion will improve your opinion; however, if you pride yourself on being a fair-minded individual, I'd recommend checking out the FAQ section of this film which explains the problems and frustrations that cops everywhere were dealing with in the wake of new legislation that allowed even the "guilty as sin" criminal to walk on technicalities and if any area of all the red tape involved in criminal investigations wasn't met to the satisfaction of a system that police across the nation viewed as favoring the criminals above the victims.

If you're up to accepting the above stated challenge, it probably still won't change your mind; but at least THEN you might understand its motivations and nuances better than you currently do, as you mentioned being born many years after the time of this film's release.

It was made 45 years ago, so you have to judge it's goodness in context. It wouldn't be as good if it came out now because it'd be a run of the mill cop movie.
There are tons of movies and filmmakers who have been inspired by Dirty Harry. Also, he is one of the most badass characters, ever.

Do we say King Kong is bad because of the effects? No, because we put it into context.

It's incredibly dated but at the time this was one of the first gritty crime movies that took place on the streets. Death Wish is another. It also had a cop with an iconic weapon. Lastly it was essentially Eastwood's first foray into the mainstream after the death of the Western.

"Balletic evidence"? LOL. Harry worked for the San Francisco Police Department, not the Bolshoi.

I could still see it being pretty good made today.

If this were made today? Simple! The liberals would shit themselves for how "un-pc" this movie is.

"Balletic evidence"?

I didn't see any classical dancers in the movie.
