Why so much hate?

If you don't like the film that's fine. If you love it that's fine. But why is there so much hate against it? People act like they were tied down to a chair and had their eyes forced open while it was shown.

Is it the greatest film? No. Is it still artistic and interesting and a good film? Absolutely.

I think it is because this is one of those polarizing movies that people will either love, or hate. I've never heard anyone say, "oh yeah, it was OK." I believe the director went in with exactly this in mind.....that the film would be very shocking and disturbing and that audience members would either completely connect with what he was doing, or turn away in horror.

In many ways, it is a testament to the excellent direction of Kubrick that this film elicits these two diametrically opposed reactions.

It's not a great movie on the surface if you just want entertainment, unless you are into violence. I'm sure some are attracted to the movie just because it's "Cool violence", but it's not gratuitous. When I first saw it, I didn't understand all the fuss, but many great movies require multiple viewings and paying strict attention to details.

Some people want lazy entertainment without thinking and others want to read into the deeper meanings and symbols and that's where Kubrick divides viewers.

Simply put, people will more readily b!tch about something than say something good. That's why, while only 7.3% of the people who rated this gave it a 5 or less, there's "so much hate". Over 50% of the people that rated it gave it a 9 or 10--but the board doesn't reflect that.
