Can somebody explain to me how this is science fiction?

The Scifi tag is messing with my brain. I don't remember anything scifi related in this film.

The movie was made in 1971 and set in the mid to late 1990's. The treatment Alex receives to render him helpless, the milk bar with the unknown drugs, etc.

I agree. The movie/book projected a future society in which an alternative solution to crime prevention was tried...and which turned out to be impractical in the real world.

It's a futuristic and somewhat dystopian society.

Dystopia is frequently considered a sub-genre of Science Fiction.

When one thinks of sci-fi they tend to think of Star Wars, laserbeams, spaceships, robots and such. But science fiction is science fiction. It's about how society reacts to a new scientific discovery. In this case, it's the drug (and overall therapy) that treats Alex.

Not that many cyberpunk movies around anymore. When I think of science fiction, I tend to think of movies like Blade Runner, Matrix, Brazil, Terminator, RoboCop, Gattaca and Total Recall. A Clockwork Orange certainly has more to do with them than with Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5 or Dune.

It didn't really show any futuristic, anticipated or imaginary technology. It did, however, show a futuristic view of social science and psychiatry.

IMo the term science fiction is not limited to fiction that incorporates some imagined, not yet invented or discovered scientific element. It can and often does include use of an existing scientific element in a not yet used way. This in fact can be extended to include how some scientific element might interact with a social or economic context in a not yet occurring way.
