I just saw this again recently and forgot how many showers Johnathan, the Jack Nicholson character, takes. What's up with that? Was it his psychological reaction to feeling unclean about his emotions, or what? You first see him showering early in the movie during a dialog with Sandy...and I didn't count, but he must take 4 or 5 more showers throughout the movie.

shareTotally agree, as well. Definitely a guy that grew up being told that sex is nasty and all that rubbish. Also, he seems to have a strong Madonna/Whore complex. He rails at the Madonna (portrayed by Candice Bergen), and berates and emotionally stomps what he perceives as the Whore (Ann-Margret...because she loves him and gives herself to him freely.) A true misogynist.
