In Archie Bunker's Place, when Gloria comes to visit after Edith passes away, she tells Archie that Mike left her to join a commune. Mike could be a jerk at times, but I never thought he would leave his wife and child. It kinda ruined the character for me. Am I alone here?

shareI'm not sure about the timeline, but it sounds like they were setting up the Gloria spinoff. The commune thing was lame. He was a college professor, why would he join a commune? Seems like he would have joined one before he met Gloria, if he was going to do that.

leave his wife and child - Yes, Mike was self-centered and self-righteous. He would do his best to pay low alimony and child support.
Meathead was always a bloviating self important jerkoff. Of course he ran off to a starving and smelly hippy commune, it’s where he belonged.
