Why was this left off the dvd?

Likely because they had no commercial appeal whatsoever.
But some performers became big AFTER appearing, so who knows? Fate...

Sweetwater definitely did have their cult following, but unfortunately they did not gain the commercial success they wanted. Especially after Nancy Nevin's tragic car accident. That said, I'm sure they were considered for the movie, but perhaps problems due to contract or royalty disputes?
By the way, there is an unreleased documentary of the 1969 Texas International Pop Festival called GOT NO SHOES GOT NO BLUES, and Sweetwater was featured in it.
I have the movie as a VHS bootleg, and it's pretty poor quality, definitely not as good as Woodstock.
